About the Board of Directors
The Board of Directors work in a volunteer capacity and are responsible for overseeing the organisation in accordance with Bellfield’s constitution, charter, and the law. The Board’s primary duty is to ensure the College’s strategic aims and ethos are carried out and implemented. Each board member is considered a responsible person for the performance, financial stability, and governance of the college.
The board brings together a group of professionals that volunteer their skills and expertise with varying backgrounds including, but not limited to, Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations, Compliance and Risk Management, Allied and Primary Health Care Professionals, Public Servants, and Lawyers. As a collective, they work collaboratively to align with the purpose and values of the organisation, and ensure Bellfield College’s community needs are met.
Expectations and responsibilities:
- Commitment to Bellfield College’s vision and mission
- Act in the best interest of Bellfield College irrespective of personal or professional interests or affiliations and in compliance with Bellfield College’s Code of Conduct and all other laws and policies
- Communicate in a transparent, professional and respectful manner with the rest of the board
- Committed to the board’s roles and responsibilities as primarily focused on strategic goals which will guide and support the operational aspects of the organisation
- Active contribution to the board and organisation to meets its deliverables
- Contribute to the development of organisational governance and policies, and assist the Executive team where required
- Ability to read and understand the financial reports and associated performance reports presented to the board
- Adequately prepare for meetings, including reading meeting papers prior to all meetings and contribute to meeting discussions by actively presenting questions and comments that add importance to the meeting to reach decisions in a collaborative and consultative manner
- Attend all Bellfield College monthly board meetings (with reasonable accommodation for extenuating circumstances)
- Uphold strict confidentiality with respect to all Bellfield College matters considered by the board
- Comply with Director’s duties as set out by ASIC in the Corporations Act 2001 and in the regulations of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Act 2012.
Board member skills and attributes required:
- A passion for volunteering and serving the community
- Qualifications – University level qualifications (preferred) and a sound understanding of non-for-profit board roles and responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in either; ○ managing budgets and/or financial planning, ○ organisational development, ○ people management
- Desirable experience, qualifications, or professional background in;
- education and/or academia in either the public, independent, or private sectors, and/or;
- Financial planning/CPA in not-for-profit organisations, and/or;
- Governance, legal, and policy expertise
- Working With Childrens’ Check and Criminal Record Check if successfully appointed to the board
Time commitment
- The Bellfield College board meets monthly for approximately 2 hours in the evenings via online video conferencing, except in December, January and Ramadan. Additional face to face meetings are required for Strategic Planning, goal setting and staff meetings, as well as interview panels for senior and executive positions. An approximate time commitment of 5 hours per month
- All board members are required to participate in relevant board committee(s) meetings and/or working groups.
- Participate in minimum professional development requirements provided by AIS NSW
Please note that applicants with a Conflict of Interest, such as a family member enrolled as a student or employed as a staff member at the College are ineligible for consideration.

Grounds and Maintenance Supervisor
Gardening & Landscaping (Trades & Services)
Bellfield College is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, reliable and suitably qualified person to support the Director of Business Operations in maintaining a safe and hazard-free workplace. Applicants with a current trade certificate in carpentry, building or electrical are desirable but not necessary.
Role Accountability
The Grounds and Maintenance officer is accountable for coordinating grounds, maintenance and/or construction work using trade level skills to ensure a clean, orderly, safe and instructionally supportive school. The Grounds and Maintenance Officer is responsible to the Director of Business Operations.
Key Result Areas
- Coordinate daily building and grounds maintenance and cleaning tasks such as rubbish removal on pathways, in playgrounds and ovals, servicing of gates and doors etc.
- Coordinate the school maintenance program, allocating tasks to other utility staff, subcontractors and/or volunteers as appropriate, and supervising work performed.
- Coordinate and supervise school turf care and grounds program, allocating tasks to other utility staff, sub-contractors and/or volunteers as appropriate, and supervising work performed.
- Coordinate induction processes for sub-contractors and service providers, ensuring that they hold appropriate evidentiary requirements, Working with Children Check, insurance and understand School policy and procedures in relation to work, health and safety.
- Undertake specialised maintenance and / or grounds tasks that require the planning, ordering and modification of building or other materials.
- Undertake small facilities maintenance and/or building projects including the monitoring of contractors if allocated.
- Coordinate any cleaning and repairs required as a result of student accidents; extreme weather; or acts of vandalism.
- Maintain hand and power tools and equipment to ensure they are safe and fit for purpose.
- Follow chemical usage and storage procedures and when required, mix chemicals following manufacturer and organisational standards.
- Move items of furniture and classroom supplies around the School.
- Mark lines on school ovals/grounds for sporting events.
- Set up furniture and equipment for sporting and special events at the School such as marquees or tents.
- Coordinate daily security routines (unlocking and locking buildings) and safety inspections of school grounds and equipment.
- Respond promptly and effectively to performing a range of general duties in accordance with school priorities.
- Promote a positive image of the school in all interactions.
- Support other teams during peak loads.
This role is classified as child-related work and therefore requires a WWCC clearance prior to commencement of employment.

The starting salary for this position is $65,551.00 plus a Laundering of Uniforms and Tool Allowance in line with conditions outlined in the Independent Schools NSW (Support and Operational Staff) Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2021.
