Aspects of EducationFor the first time in Education History, students and teachers have access to instantaneous information resources beyond the four walls of their classroom or library.
The age of information technology demands the development of new skills and strategies. At Bellfield, the management and staff endeavor to be progressive and proactive in order to ensure that our students receive quality education with the latest resources available.
Research into how children learn, how the brain functions and insights into pedagogical processes have pointed to a process of inquiry as an effective way of learning. As a result, WRAP and Junior Great Books have been selected as key features in literacy and learning.
Inquiry- based learning promotes thought processes:
The WRAP method will be used as the primary method of literacy at Bellfield. This is a total Arts language programme that is phonetically based and multisensory in its approach.
WRAP enables the student to understand the mechanics of spelling and grammar by actively engaging their intellect. It integrates the teaching of the various language strands- listening, speaking, writing, reading and comprehension, appealing to all learning styles. It demands and promotes higher-level thinking skills.
The benefits to other subjects are evident, as the ability to solve problems, decode and comprehend a new range of vocabulary are essential.
The Great Books program is also offered to all students. This is an inquiry-based program, which gives students opportunities to interact with thought-provoking literature and experience shared inquiry discussions. This outstanding literature program uses Socratic discussion to promote higher level thinking and excellent oral and discussion skills in students. The Junior Great Books Program is a part of the Curriculum K-6.
